In the Name of God Amen I John Chambers the elder of Salehurst in the County of Sussex Tanner being in good health and of sound and disposing mind and memory praised be God therefore but calling to mind the Uncertainty of this life and being willing to settle things in order do this present one and twentyeth day of December in the Eighth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George by the Grace of God of great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith &c. Annoque Domini One thousand seven hundred and twenty one make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following First and principally I recommend my Soul into the hands of God my Creator hoping to be made Partaker of eternal Glory and happiness in the world to come through the only merits and Righteousness of our blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and my body I commit to the Earth from whence it was taken to be decently buryed at the discretion of my Executor hereinafter named in hopes of a joyful Resurrection and as touching the disposition of that temporal Estate which the Lord hath blessed me withall I give and dispose thereof as followth Viz.t Item I give and bequeath unto the poor of the Parish of Salehurst aforesaid forty shillings of lawful money of great Brittaine to be payd and distributed to and amongst them by my Executor hereafter named Item I give and bequeath unto my Son Robert Chambers the Sum of Five pounds of lawful money of great Britain to be payd him by my Executor hereinafter named within twelve Months after my decease Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Sarah Chambers the Sum of one hundred and fifty pounds of good and lawful money of great Britain One hundred pounds part thereof to be payd her within twelve months next after my decease by my Executor hereinafter named and Fifty Pounds residue of the said one hundred and fifty pounds to be payd her within eighteen months next after my decease also by my Executor hereinafter named but my mind and Will is that my Executor shall and do pay and allow or cause to be payd and allowed unto my said Daughter Sarah Chambers Interest for the said one hundred and fifty pounds after the rate of Five pounds per Cent per Annum from the day of my death until such time as the same shall become payable for and towards her maintenance and Livelyhood Item I further give and bequeath unto my said Daughter Sarah Chambers all my Silver Plate and all my Pewter and all my Linnen and the Bedd Bedstedle (?) and Hangings Chests and other Furniture and Things in and belonging to the best Chamber of the House wherein I now live except my Silver Tankard which I do hereby give and bequeath unto my Grandson Philip Chambers but my mind and will is that my said Daughter Sarah Chambers shall have the standing of the aforesaid Goods in the aforesaid Chamber for three months next after my decease without paying or allowing any thing for the same All which said Goods and Plate to be delivered to my said Daughter Sarah Chambers within one Month after my decease by my Executor herein after named And my Mind and Will is that my said Daughter Sarah Chambers shall keep the aforesaid silver Tankard given to my Grandson Philip Chambers until he shall attain to the Age of one and twenty years Item I also give and bequeath unto my said Grandson Philip Chambers the sum of Ten pounds of lawful money of great Britain to be payd him at his Age of one and twenty years by my Executor hereinafter named Item I give and bequeath unto my three Grandchildren Elizabeth Abigail and John Freebody the Sum of thirty pounds of lawful money of great Britain to be payd unto them within twelve months after my decease by my Executor hereinafter named equally to be divided between them share and share alike Item I give and devise all and singular my Messuages or Tenements Lands Tenements and Premisses with their and every of their Appurtenances scituate lyeing and being in the Countyes of Sussex and Kent whatsoever and wheresoever unto my Son John Chambers and to his Heirs and Assignes for ever I also give and bequeath unto my said Son John Chambers all and every my Godds [sic] Chattells and personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever and not herein before given and bequeathed And my Mind and Will is that all and every my Messuages Lands Tenements and Premisses and also my personal Estate given devised and bequeathed unto my Son John Chambers shall be chargeable with the payment of all and every my Debts Legacyes Funerall Expences and Probate of this my Will and I do hereby charge the same with payment thereof And my Will and meaning further is that if my said Son John Chambers shall delay neglect refuse or deny on any pretence whatsoever to pay or satisfie my just debts or any Legacy or Legacyes contrary to the true intent and meaning of this my Will that then I do hereby give and devise all and Every my Messuages or Tenements Lands Tenements and Premisses with their and every of their Appurtenancees herein before given and devised to my said Son John Chambers unto Richard Rabson of Tisehurst in the said County of Sussex Gent and John Springett the younger of Hawkhurst in the said County of Kent Gent and to the Survivor of them and to the Heirs and Assigns of the Survivor of them they selling and disposing of the same so soon as conveniently they can at the best price they can get And this money arising by Sale thereof pay and discharge all my just debts and the Legacy and Legacyes herein before given And from and after payment thereof and their reasonable cost charges and expences in the Execution and performance of this my Will the Overplus of such money arising by Sale of such Messuages or Tenements Lands Tenements and Premisses pay or cause to be payd unto my said Son John Chambers his Executors Administrators or Assigns And if such Sale be made by the said Richard Rabson and John Springett of the said Messuages or Tenements Lands and Premisses as aforesaid then I give and bequeath unto the said Richard Rabson and John Springett one Guinea apeice [sic] over and above their reasonable charges as aforesaid but my mind and will is that if my Son Robert Chambers shall think fitt to buy my aforesaid Messuages Lands and Premisses devised to my Cousins Richard Rabson and John Springett and their Heirs to be sold as aforesaid That he the said Robert Chambers shall and may have the same giveing and paying so much money as the same is worth or as another Person will give and not otherwise And lastly I make and ordain the said John Chambers my Son sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament revoking all former and other Wills and Codicills by me at any time heretofore made In Witness whereof I the said John Chambers the elder the Testator have to this my last Will and Testament conteined in two Sheets of paper to the first Sheet thereof sett my hand and to the last Sheet thereof set my hand and Seal the day and year first above written John Chambers sen'r Signed sealed published and declared by the said John Chambers the elder as and for the last Will and Testament of the said John Chambers the Elder the Testator in the presence of us whose names are hereunto subscribed as Witnesses in the presence of the said Testator John Weston Thomas King Jame [sic] King Probatum fuit hujusmodi Testamentum apud London decimo octavo die Mensis Septembris Anno Domini millesimo septingentimo vicesimo quarto coram Venerabili Viro Edwardo Kingston Legum Doctore Surrogato Venerabilis Et Egregij Viri Johannis Bettesworth Legum Doctoris Curiae Praerogativae Cantuariensis Magistri Custodis Sive Commissarij legitime constituti Juramento Johannis Chambers Filij et Executoris liiiici in dicto Testamento nominati Cui commissa fuit dicti defuncti de bene et fideliter Administrando eadem ad sancta Dei Evangelia jurat
